  1. The minutes from March 13 were approved as written.
  2. Professors Dorothy Johnson, DEO of the School of Art and Art History, and Steve McGuire, Coordinator of the Studio Division of Art and Art History, presented a proposal from Art and Art History to add one credit hour to intermediate and advanced studio courses, allowing students to earn appropriate credit for work performed while permitting faculty to expand the depth of topics and activities within a course. The pedagogy of teaching studio art has changed over the last ten years, with readings, lectures, and discussions of contemporary art and art theory now an essential part of studio class time providing necessary knowledge for a successful undergraduate education in art and entrance into graduate school. The change in hours will benefit both student learning and faculty teaching. EPC had a number of questions on the use of class time; enrollment management issues, and effects of the change on course availability and graduation rates. The committee also examined the impact of the changes on transfer students. After discussion, EPC unanimously agreed to recommend to the College the approval of the curriculum changes and noted the thoughtful work of the studio faculty and of the curriculum committee within the School of Art and Art History.

Respectfully submitted,
EPC Secretary
Robert Ketterer
