CLAS Finance Group
Using a business center model, this group provides dedicated expertise for financial management support to departments. Accountants assist departmental administrators in the finance and accounting area to ensure accuracy and best accounting practices. This model supports the University and Collegiate mission of financial management accountability through sub-certification and sharing of best practices. Below is a list of services typically provided by this group of accountants.
- Monthly reminders ("Business Briefs") for administrative staff and accountants
- Quarterly meetings with departmental administrators to review financial statements
- Answering questions regarding budget allocations related to departmental visitor, teaching assistant, general expense, equipment and renovation budgets.
- Counsel and guidance on compliance with University and CLAS policies and procedures
- Assistance during the annual salary budget process and fiscal year end closing of accounts
- Training on UI policies and procedures, financial systems and payroll forms
- Assistance in the annual closing of financial statements and sub-certification process
- Maintenance of a shared directory with business and financial information (N:\GeneralUse\Accounting\)
