This lecture will feature a performance and discussion of exciting works from Russia, Brazil, China, Cuba, France, Africa, Hungary, England, and America. From African drum rhythms to blues to Chinese folk tunes to Eastern European melodies to Brazilian dances, the Iowa Woodwind Quintet will weave a story through music from around the world. Bring your passport and possibly an umbrella!

The Iowa Woodwind Quintet has been in existence at the UI School of Music in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences since about 1932.  Its current members are Nicole Esposito, flute; Mark Weiger, oboe; Maurita Murphy Mead, clarinet; Benjamin Coelho, bassoon; and Kristin Thelander, horn.
