In 1997, the Field Museum in Chicago acquired "Sue,"
the largest and most complete Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton yet collected.
Sue was the source of massive controversy and speculation before
1997, and Christopher Brochu was asked to conduct a thorough study
of the skeleton, including a complete description and a high-resolution
CT analysis of the skull. This provided the most detailed look
yet of this giant predator. It allowed Brochu to examine more
closely some of the early speculations made about Sue's sex and
cause of death, but it also led to new conclusions about the life
and times of Tyrannosaurus rex. In this presentation, he will
discuss the insights Sue gives us on tyrannosaurs, ancient life,
and the ways of science.
