Welcome! The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is the heart of the University of Iowa, the oldest and largest of the University’s colleges. Every year, more than 2,500 students graduate from the College, and more than 4000 new students arrive to begin their educational journey. Almost every undergraduate student in other colleges in the University will take foundation courses taught by our faculty, as do most of the graduate students, and our faculty work on interdisciplinary projects with every other college on campus. The departments and programs of the College offer opportunities for our students to explore the fine arts, humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and mathematical sciences, and to learn the skills needed to participate in an increasingly technological, global, and interdisciplinary world. Our students can complete majors, minors, and certificates, and participate in study abroad, internships, and faculty-led and independent research projects. Our faculty are also deeply committed to service to the state and beyond; providing research and insights addressing the many challenges we face as a state and as a nation. Our website provides information for current and prospective students and their parents, for our alumni and friends, and for our faculty and staff. But even on a website as large and varied as this one, it is difficult to represent the full scope of the College. If you cannot find what you are looking for, please contact us – you’ll find phone numbers and email addresses throughout the site.
