RE: Deadlines for Developmental Programs for Not-yet-tenured Faculty

This memo provides 2007-2008 deadlines for:

  1. 2008-09 Flexible Load Assignment applications
  2. 2008 Old Gold Summer Fellowship applications
  3. Submission of reports on Old Gold Awards taken in summer 2007

Please disseminate this information to eligible not-yet-tenured faculty in your department.

Flexible Load Assignment (2008-2009) applications
Due to the DEO - Friday, October 26, 2007
Due to the Dean - Friday, November 2, 2007

The following materials must be submitted to the Dean’s Office:

  • the Application Form for Flexible Load Assignment, completed by the applicant and signed by the DEO (please contact Billie Townsend at 5-3994 or billie-townsend@uiowa.edu to obtain the Application Form,
  • the faculty member’s one page summary of the work to be accomplished during the assignment, and
  • the faculty member’s updated CV.

Many departments have established their own requirements (often including a more detailed prospectus, similar to a CDA application) and have processes for internal evaluation. Departments may continue these practices, but need not forward the additional materials to the College.

Please ensure that your faculty members understand the two major stipulations of this program. First, faculty receiving a flexible load must maintain a normal presence on campus during the flexible load semester (i.e., only occasional travel). Second, faculty must show some teaching (at least one student for one semester hour) during the flexible load semester.

2008 Old Gold Summer Fellowship applications
Due to the DEO - Friday, December 14, 2007

  • the Application Form for an Old Gold Summer Fellowship, completed by the applicant and signed by the DEO;
  • the faculty member’s one- or two-page proposal for the teaching and/or research development project to be undertaken during the award period;
  • the DEO’s letter evaluating and endorsing the faculty member’s proposal; and the faculty member’s updated CV.

The Provost’s Office website publishes detailed guidelines and application procedures for Old Gold Fellowships. If you have questions about these fellowships, please contact Associate Provost Susan Johnson susan-johnson@uiowa.edu or 335-0256.
