Program Summary:
The Center For Ethnic Studies And The Arts (CESA), University of Iowa, will sponsor a 2 1/2 day workshop for junior tenure-track faculty working on books or articles that address any aspect of ethnic identities and the arts.
The workshop will consist of: sessions on individual drafts: style tips; networking with faculty from many colleges and universities; information about the publishing process and your first book; CIC-sponsored reception for all participants. Participants are expected to participate in sessions from Thursday afternoon Nov. 1 through Saturday afternoon Nov. 3. Half the workshop participants will be UI faculty; half will be selected from other colleges and universities.
Topics may include but are not restricted to:
- issues of representation of a minority in one of the arts;
- creative expression of a particular ethnic or racial identity;
- cross-disciplinary or comparative ethnic studies in the arts;
- ethnic studies issues in expressive culture and/or rituals.
They seek work in all areas of expressive cultures and in any art form.
To Apply:
All participants must hold a current Tenure Track Faculty position and must submit a draft of approximately 7-20 pages of the article or book chapter being proposed for workshop development. Only work that has not yet been published is eligible. Preference will be given to faculty from CIC-member institutions.
