 Minors offered by the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, 2005-2006

Programs offering a minor generally offer a major leading to a B.A. or B.S. degree as well; exceptions are noted below. A number of units offering majors or certificates do not offer minors, this is also noted below. For general policies on minors, see the Student Academic Handbook. Specific requirements for each minor are available in the University's General Catalog. Students in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences may also earn a minor in Business Administration, and minors in Economics and Biochemistry, as well as minors from the College of Education (consult the College of Education for more information).

The following CLAS units offer minors

African American Studies
Aging Studies: A minor and certificate are offered; no major is offered but students can devise a program leading to a major through the Interdepartmental Studies Program.
Anthropology
American Indian and Native Studies: A minor and a certificate are offered. Students also may devise a program leading to a major through the Interdepartmental Studies Program
American Studies
Art and Art History:  Two minors are offered, one in Art and one in Art History
Asian Languages and Literature
Biological Sciences
Chemistry
Cinema and Comparative Literature: Two minors are offered, one in Cinema and one in Comparative Literature
Classics: Four minors are offered, in Ancient Civilizations, Classical Languages, Greek, and Latin
Communication Studies
Computer Science
Dance
English
French and Italian:  Two minors are offered, one in French and one in Italian.

German
Global Health Studies: A certificate and minor are offered. Students may incorporate an interest in Global Health into the International Studies major.
Health and Sport Studies
History
Integrative Physiology (formerly Exercise Science): A minor in integrative physiology is offered; there is no minor in Athletic training.
International Studies
Journalism and Mass Communication:  The School of Journalism and Mass Communication offers a minor in Mass Communication.
Latin American Studies: A certificate and minor are offered. Students may incorporate an interest in Latin American Studies into the International Studies major.

Physics and Astronomy: Two minors are offered, one in Physics, one in Astronomy.  There is no minor in Applied Physics; though students may earn a BS in Applied Physics.

Spanish and Portuguese: Two minors are offered, in Spanish and in Portuguese
Statistics and Actuarial Science: A minor in Statistics is offered; no minor in Actuarial Science but a major in Actuarial Science leading to a BS degree is offered.

The following CLAS units do not offer minors

American Sign Language: No minor or major is offered. A certificate in American Sign Language and Deaf Studies is offered and a sequence of language courses approved for General Education is offered.
Environmental Sciences: No minor is offered; a major leading to a BS degree is offered.
Interdepartmental Studies: No minor is offered; students may devise a program leading to a BA major.
International Business:  No minor is offered; a certificate is offered and students may devise a program leading to a BA major through the Interdepartmental Studies Program.
Literature, Science, and the Arts: No minor is offered; a major leading to a BA degree is offered.
Liberal Studies:  No minor is offered; students may develop a program leading to the B.L.S. degree.
Medieval Studies: No minor is offered; a certificate is offered and students may consider the Interdepartmental Studies major with an emphasis in Medieval Studies.
PEOPLE Program: No minor is offered; a certificate is offered and students may develop a major through the Interdepartmental Studies Program.
Rhetoric: No minor is offered; courses of general interest are offered, as well as courses for the General Education Program rhetoric component.
Sexuality Studies:  No minor is offered; a certificate is offered. Students may devise a major through the Interdepartmental Studies Program.
Speech Pathology and Audiology:  No minor is offered; a BA in Speech and Hearing Science is offered.
