Details: Performances, poetry, and politics will meld into an
exploration of black culture, history and viewpoints during the 2007
Obermann Humanities Symposium. This two-day event will bring together
scholars, performances and the public to think about contemporary
notions of black middle-class performance within the humanities and
American culture at large. Poet Laureate of New Jersey Amiri Baraka will give a performative talk
titled, "Negrossity," using poetry, and short fiction. A solo performance by University of Iowa Assistant Professor Vershawn
Ashanti Young titled, "Your Average Nigga."
