Poets Buchanan and Stonecipher, Writers' Workshop alumnae, will read April 6

Iowa Writers' Workshop alumnae Oni Buchanan and Donna Stonecipher will read from their National Poetry Series-winning books at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 6, in the Prairie Lights bookstore at 15 S. Dubuque St. in downtown Iowa City. The "Live from Prairie Lights" series event will be streamed live and then archived on the UI Writing University Web site http://writinguniversity.uiowa.edu.

Buchanan's "Spring "was selected by Mark Doty for the 2007 National Poetry Series, and Stonecipher's third book, "The Cosmopolitan" was selected for the National Poetry Series by John Yau.

Oni BuchananBuchanan's (right) career combines the professions of poet and concert pianist. Her first poetry book, "What Animal," was published in 2003, she has released three solo piano CDs, and she maintains a private piano teaching studio in Boston. She is presenting "Poetry in Piano" concert programs throughout the country this spring in addition to poetry readings.

Donna StonecipherStonecipher (left), a faculty member at the University of Georgia, is the author of "The Reservoir" and "Souvenir de Constantinople." She grew up in Seattle and Teheran, lived in Prague from 1994 to 1998, and now splits time between Georgia and Germany.

Her poems have appeared in Denver Quarterly, Field, the Indiana Review, New American Writing and Web Conjunctions, and her translations of French and German poets have appeared or are forthcoming in Circumference, Action Yes, chicagopostmodernpoetry and the Graywolf anthology "New European Poets."

The Writers' Workshop is a graduate program in the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
