FACULTY ASSEMBLY

The Faculty Assembly will meet Wednesday, November 28
from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m.
in the Senate Chamber, Old Capitol

(The meeting will end promptly at 5:00 due to strict policies concerning the use of the Senate Chamber.
Members should be sure to sign one of the attendance sheets.)

  AGENDA

1. Discussion/Approval of the Minutes of the October 24, 2007 Faculty Assembly meeting. Draft available here.

2. Brief Messages and Announcements (if any).

3. Discussion of a Proposal Concerning the Structure of Voting Groups in the College. The Executive Committee brings as a motion to the Faculty Assembly this proposal (see here) to change the current voting groups in the College. The change is an attempt to ensure equal opportunity for CLAS faculty to be elected to seats on the College’s Executive Committee and Educational Policy Committee, CLAS seats on Graduate Council, and elected seats on Faculty Assembly.

4. Continued Discussion of the Educational Policy Committee’s proposals for Pandemic and Disaster Policies. The EPC has developed policies to guide the College on academic matters in the case of a pandemic or a short-term disaster. The Assembly discussed the Pandemic Policy at the October meeting but tabled discussion of the Disaster Policy until today’s meeting. See the draft policies here.

5. Discussion of a Proposal for a New Minor in Environmental Sciences. Professors Steve Hendrix and Diana Horton will attend the meeting to answer questions on the proposal (see full details here). This proposal comes as a motion from the Educational Policy Committee. If approved, the proposal will be sent to the Provost.

6. Discussion of a Proposal for a Name Change for the Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology to The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders. The department has prepared a short rationale (here), and representatives will attend the meeting to answer questions. This proposal comes as a motion from the Executive Committee.

Guests are welcome to attend Faculty Assembly Meetings (and may speak with the permission of the Assembly), but only Members may vote on issues before the Assembly.

Other 2007 - 2008 Meeting Dates: January 30, 2008; February 20, 2008; March 26, 2008; and April 23, 2008.
