CLAS Bond Fund for Interdisciplinary Interaction Awards
 

Awards made for 2007 - 2008
Seven awards were made:

  • to Professors Kenneth Tse and Jeff Agrell, School of Music, to support improvisation events;
  • to Professor Barbara Eckstein, English, to support multi-disciplinary programs on the Iowa River;
  • to Professor Glen Ehrstine, German, to support a Medieval Studies Workshop;
  • to Professor Margaret Mills, Asian and Slavic Languages and Literature, to support a Japanese Food Culture Event;
  • to Professor Chuanren Ke, Confucius Institute, to support an International Symposium on Chinese Applied Linguistics;
  • to Professor David Klemm, Religious Studies, to support a conference on "Religion, Literature, and the Arts;" and
  • to Professor Alan MacVey, Division of Performing Arts, to support the "Creating the Future Project" (events will take place in 2008 -2009).

Awards made for 2006-2007
Three awards were made:

  • to Professor Glen Ehrstine, German,in support a Medieval Studies Workshop;
  • to Professor Karla MacGregor, Speech Pathology and Audiology, in support of the Iowa Center for Developmental and Learning Sciences 2007 workshop series; and
  • to Professor John Logsdon, Biology, in support of the first University of Iowa Darwin Day Celebration (event postponed until February 2008).

Awards made for 2005 - 2006
Six awards were made:

  • to Professor Loyce Arthur, Theatre Arts, to support a three-day workshop on Balinese Mask Performance;
  • to Professor Linda Bolton, English, in support of the visit of sculptor Barbara Grygutis to campus;
  • to Professors Ken Cmiel and Elizabeth Heineman, History, in support of a UI Center for Human Rights Conference on the History of Sexual Violence in Combat Zones;
  • to Professor Michael Lomax, Health and Sport Studies, for a symposium "Building Global Understanding of Race and Sport";
  • to Professor Russell Valentino in support of a symposium on the practice of literary translation; and
  • to Professor Vershawn Ashanti Young, Rhetoric and African American Studies, in support of the visit of Professor Ifeoma Kiddoe Nwankwo to the UI.

Awards made for 2004 - 2005
Two awards were made:

  • to Professor Venise Berry, Journalism and Mass Communication, for a Celebration of Black Art and Literature; and
  • to Professor Kembrew McLeod, for the forum on file-sharing and music downloading during the semester-long exploration of Intellectual Property.

Awards made for 2003 - 2004
Six awards were made:

  • to Professor John Finamore, Classics, in support of symposia on Roman Culture;
  • to Professor Lawrence Fritts, Music, in support of the visit of the electroaccoustic ensemble, Edison Studio;
  • to Professor Jennifer Glass, Sociology, and William Reisinger, Political Science, in support of workshops on recent innovations in the analysis of social science data;
  • to Professor Teresa Mangum, in support of the "Serious Pleasures" conference;
  • to Professor Lauren Rabinovitz, American Studies, for the lecture series, "Cultural Frameworks for Civil Liberties"; and
  • in support of a Reception for the CIC Deans at the American Society for Ethnohistory conference.

Awards made for 2002 - 2003
Three awards were made:

  • to Professor J. W. O. Ballard, Biological Sciences, in support of a symposium, "Comparative Genomics: Genotype to Phenotype";
  • to Professors Jennifer Glass, Sociology and William Reisinger, Political Science, in support of joint research methodology workshops;
  • to Professor Robert Ketterer, Classics, in support of the conference "Handel in Iowa."
