QuickGuide: Remove an Attached Item Without Deleting the E-mail From Outlook 2007
In order to save on storage space, at times it is advantageous to remove an attachment from a received e-mail, but still retain the body of the message. For users that wish to remove an attached item, the following steps may be performed:
- Open Microsoft Outlook 2007.
- Locate the e-mail with the attached item to be removed.
- Double-click on the e-mail to open it in its own window.
- Right-click on the attached item's icon (near the top of the message window), and select "Remove" from the fly-out menu.
- Once the attached item has been deleted, close the message, saving changes when prompted.
QuickGuide: Scan a Picture in Windows Vista
While there are a variety of graphical and scanner packages available on the market, Windows Vista allows the user to easily scan in pictures natively:
- Open Windows Photo Gallery.
- Click the Start button, click All Programs, and then click Windows Photo Gallery.
- To change the location where scanned files are stored:
- Select the File | Options menu item.
- Click the Import tab.
- Select the “Settings for: Scanners” drop-down menu option, and then click the Browse button.
- Navigate and highlight the folder to contain the scanned images, and then click the OK button.
- Click the OK button to accept the changes and close the Windows Photo Gallery Options window.
- Select the File | Import from Camera or Scanner menu item.
- In the window that appears, click the scanner that you want to use, and then click the Import button.
- In the window that appears, ensure that the “Profile: Photo” drop-down menu item is selected.
- Select the desired color options from the “Color:” format drop-down list.
- Select the desired file type to use when saving the scan from the “File type:” drop-down list.
- A TIF will be larger than the same picture saved as a .JPG because .JPG can be compressed, which makes the file smaller - at the cost of lower visual quality.
- Select the resolution to use when scanning the file from the “Resolution (DPI):” field.
- Resolution is the amount of detail that is visible in an image. Use a higher number such as 300 for good quality printouts, or use a lower number such as 96 for monitor only viewing.
- Adjust the brightness and contrast settings to achieve the initial desired effect.
- Click the Preview button to see how the picture will appear when scanned, making adjustments and previewing again as needed.
- Click Scan button to scan the picture.
- When the scan has completed, enter tag information if desired.
- While optional, adding tagged information allows the image to be easily found or organized.
- Click the Import button.
- When finished scanning, select the File | Exit menu item to close Windows Photo Gallery.
