An internationally known scholarly resource that holds an extensive archive of writings by and about the Argentinean poet and philosopher Jorge Luis Borges and publishes the scholarly journal Variaciones Borges in both print and electronic formats.

Carver Center for Comparative Genomics, Department of Biology
Promotes the understanding of biological diversity through research and training emphasizing molecular-level and population-level processes, and through comparative analysis of genes and genomes.

Center for Criminology and Socio-legal Studies, Department of Sociology
Interdisciplinary forum for research and training in the areas of crime, law, mental health, corrections, and social control.

Center for Ethnic Sudies and the Arts, Department of American Studies

Institute for Cinema and Culture, Department of Cinema and Comparative Literature
Sponsors major film retrospectives, proseminars, and national film conferences on a broad spectrum of film matters. Serves as a bank of information on film and film materials for faculty and students.

Institute for Inequality Studies, Department of Sociology
Promotes interdisciplinary exchange and scholarly engagement in population research on the causes and consequences of social inequality.

Iowa Center for Developmental and Learning Sciences, Department of Psychology
Brings together researchers who seek to understand processes that underlie development and learning from neurons to neighborhoods, acknowledging that the brain, mind, body, physical environment, social relationships, and large-scale social systems are all intertwined.

Iowa Depression and Clinical Research Center, Department of Psychology.
In collaboration with researchers in the Department of Psychiatry, develops mechanisms for assessing and treating depression in pregnant and post-partum women and examines the long-term outcomes for mothers and their children.

Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Institute
An interdisciplinary center involving faculty in CLAS, Engineering, Medicine, Pharmacy, and Public Health, focusing on issues related to applications and implications of nanoscience.

National Resource Center on Family Centered Practice, School of Social Work
Promotes family-centered, culturally responsive practice across human service systems through research and evaluation, training and technical assistance, and information dissemination. Includes the following:

Disproportionate Minority Confinement Research Center
Assists the State of Iowa’s Juvenile Justice Advisory Council in implementing the federal Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act’s Disproportionate Minority Confinement requirement.

Latino Institute
Provides opportunities for education and training, research and evaluation, and information dissemination, nationally and internationally, related to Latina/Latino families and communities.

National Center for Voice and Speech, Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology
An interdisciplinary, multi-site team of investigators dedicated to studying the powers, limitations, and enhancement of human voice and speech.

Optical Science and Technology Center
Promotes research efforts and fosters cross-disciplinary interactions in areas of basic and applied optical science.

Social Science Research Center
An interdisciplinary center dedicated to furthering social science research and practice at the UI and developing ways to connect that research to the broader community. Involves faculty in Political Science, Sociology, Journalism & Mass Communication, and Economics.

W. M. Keck Dynamic Image Analysis Facility, Department of Biology
Provides the most advanced two-dimensional and three-dimensional dynamic image analysis systems for examining, analyzing, and reconstructing the dynamics of organisms, tissues, cells, and subcellular compartments.

Center for Asian and Pacific Studies
Promotes teaching, research, and outreach related to East and Southeast Asia.

Center for Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies
Facilitates connections among departments and programs engaged in aspects of this area of study across the University and the region. Administers a BA degree in International Studies with emphasis in REEES, offering instruction in five regional languages.

Crossing Boarders Project
Interdisciplinary cross-area graduate traiing and faculty research program involving multi-sited research at the intersection of two or more cultures.

International Forum for US Studies
Sponsors research residencies, faculty seminars, colloquium series, international conferences and institutional linkages, and guest teaching opportunities for distinguished scholars from outside the United States.

National Resource Center for International Studies
Enhances and expands international teaching, research, and service in Iowa, the nation, and globally through the introduction of new programs and courses, outreach, and internship site development abroad.

UI Center for Human Rights
