Eligibility
Students
in the creative arts, humanities, and related social sciences
are eligible to apply, so long as their project has a relevant
focus.
The applicant must use the fellowship period to complete an
MFA project or to conduct postcomprehensive research and writing
on a doctoral dissertation. The fellowship is most appropriate for indiviuals who are a year away from completion of their projects; it is not appropriate for those just beginning research/writing.
Focus
The applicant's research/creative project must focus on intercultural
communication and/or the understanding of diverse philosophies
and religious perspectives. Preference is given to projects that are in some way consonant with elements of the ideas and research of Dr. Marcus
Bach.
Awards
A Bach Fellowship may be awarded for two semesters ($17,000
stipend plus $1,000 tuition scholarship) or for one semester
($8,500 plus $500 tuition scholarship. Each
year, up to four Bach Fellowships will be awarded. Holders of a Bach Fellowship may not accept another UI Fellowship or Assistantship during the period of the fellowship.
