Student Advisory Council
The College of Liberal Arts & Sciences is rich in students---16,000 undergraduate students and almost 2,700 graduate students, two-thirds of the University's total enrollments.
The Dean's Graduate Student Advisory Council (DGSAC) is a group of students who work with Dean Linda Maxson. They are elected by the Graduate Student Senate from the GSS membership; two members represent each of the College's three curricular divisions: Humanities and Fine Arts; Natural and Mathematical Sciences, and Social Sciences.
DGSAC meets at least once every semester. Items on the DGSAC agenda may include:
- information and announcements that the CLAS Dean and other administrators would like to pass on to the graduate student community;
- discussion of issues involving graduate students--topics on which graduate students want to hear the College's perspective and those on which the College would like graduate student input;
- discussion of ideas and plans for increasing the visibility and gaining support for graduate education, including fundraising;
- discussion of ideas and plans for increasing communication between departments and graduate students
- discussion of idea and plans for increasing the quantity and quality of contact between undergraduates and graduate students;
- special presentations by guests who can address graduate student concerns.
(Note: Graduate Assistants' collective bargaining agreement with the University precludes the discussion within the advisory council of any issues relating to the terms of employment covered by the COGS contract.)
