Shoemaker-Strickler Memorial Scholarships
The College of Liberal Arts & Sciences awards two Shoemaker-Strickler Memorial Scholarships each year to exceptional entering first-year students who have declared Chemistry or Physics majors. These scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic merit, not financial need. Each scholarship is for $8,000 and is renewable for up to four years or graduation, whichever comes first.
William and Effa McMeans Scholarships
The College of Liberal Arts & Sciences annually awards up to fifteen William and Effa McMeans Scholarships, each in the amount of $2,000, to selected entering first-year students who are National Merit Scholars and who are majoring in a liberal arts and sciences discipline. This scholarship is renewable for up to four years or graduation, whichever comes first.
Dean Gerhard Loewenberg Scholarship
The College of Liberal Arts & Sciences awards the Dean Gerhard Loewenberg Scholarship in the amount of $2,500 each fall to an entering first-year student who demonstrates academic promise and plans to pursue a major in one of the liberal arts and sciences disciplines. All qualified candidates from the Presidential Scholarship pool are considered. This scholarship is awarded only for the student’s first year.
CLAS Excellence Awards
The College of Liberal Arts & Sciences will award up to five $2,000 CLAS Excellence Awards each year to entering first-year students who show academic promise and plan to study a liberal arts and sciences discipline. All qualified candidates will be considered. No application is required. These scholarships are awarded only for the students' first year.
Grisamore Liberal Arts & Sciences Scholarship
The College of Liberal Arts & Sciences awards the Grisamore Liberal Arts & Sciences Scholarship in the amount equal to resident tuition ($5,376 for 2007-2008) to a deserving entering first-year student from Iowa who plans to study in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences. Financial need is considered in making this scholarship award. No application is required. This scholarship is awarded only for the student’s first year.
