Shoemaker-Strickler Memorial Scholarships

Amount:

  • Equal to cost of tuition, fees, and books. For 2008-2009, this total is $7,584 for residents of Iowa and $21,698 for nonresidents.
  • Up to four awards

    Note: Shoemaker-Strickler Memorial Scholarships may be added to other University of Iowa Scholarships such as the Presidential Scholarship, Old Gold Scholarship, National Merit Scholarship, Provost's Scholarship, or Advantage Iowa Scholarship for a combined value not to exceed the total cost of education plus $1,000. The total cost of education is determined annually by the Office of Student Financial Aid and includes tuition, fees, room and board, books and supplies, and personal and transportation expenses.
Eligibility:
  • Must be an entering first year student
  • Must have declared Chemistry or Physics as a major
  • Must present an ACT composite score of 30 or above (a combined SAT Critical Reading and Math score of 1330 or above) and an Admission Index Score[ (2 X ACT composite) + high school percentile rank ] of 150 or above.
    • NOTE: If your high school does not rank, you must present an ACT composite score of 30 or above (a combined SAT Critical Reading and Math score of 1330 or above) and a 3.90 cumulative high school grade point average (GPA) on a 4.00 scale.
Renewability:
  • Renewable for a total of four years or to graduation, whichever comes first
Criteria for renewal:
  • Must remain enrolled full-time as a Chemistry or Physics major
  • Must maintain 3.50 University of Iowa grade point average
